Exploring The Learning

A Look At Multiple Intelligences

The theory of multiple intelligences was first developed by Howard Gardner. He defined eight intelligences which we all have to some degree. Most of us have one intelligence which dominates the others and so have preferred ways of establishing meaning for ourselves. When planning for pupils to explore new ideas a choice of learning activities will provide opportunities for all learners. Richard Villa sees the eight intelligences as integral parts of a whole. Teachers can create opportunities for pupils to use their dominant intelligence to develop the others and so pupils can learn ways to get smarter.
